About

Communication and swallowing support

Changes to communication and swallowing can follow a stroke, a neurological condition, an illness or changes in memory. Our speech pathology team assesses what is happening and works with you, your family and your carers on practical strategies, from everyday conversations to safer eating and drinking, so you can keep doing the things that matter to you.

Speech pathology can help with

  • Swallowing difficulties (dysphagia), including assessment and safer eating and drinking strategies
  • Finding words and following conversations
  • Speech that is unclear or effortful
  • Communication changes with dementia or memory loss
  • Reading, writing and using communication aids
  • Strategies for family members and carers
